A hillside wool farmer in the rugged biome of Cliffside Ridge fears that his long-standing operation may face extinction due to relentless attacks by phantom flocks. The nocturnal terrors have been snatching sheep and leaving devastation in their wake.
Ricky and Kristen Blockshearer, fourth-generation sheep farmers, have tended the 2,500-block estate for decades, with 1,000 blocks dedicated to treacherous hill grazing. However, phantom activity has soared, threatening the survival of their flock and farm.
Phantom Menace
“It’s out of control,” said Ricky. “I’ve never seen this many phantoms before. They’ve become bold, targeting both lambs and ewes. At this rate, we’ll have to shut down in three seasons.”
While golden eagles in the neighboring Sky Peaks biome remain peaceful, the invasive phantoms—reintroduced to the Overworld through questionable portal experiments—have turned the once-thriving Cliffside flock into a shadow of its former glory.
Blockshearer has tried every known phantom deterrent: soul torches, cats, and even a diversionary strategy using cooked chicken at the edge of his fields. Yet, the mobs seem unfazed, snatching sheep before Ricky can react.
A Decaying Legacy
The family’s flock, once 1,200 strong, has dwindled to just 1,050. “The problem is, our sheep are trained to navigate steep cliffs, and you can’t just spawn replacements,” explained Kristen. “We’re forced to keep older ewes, but they can’t outrun the phantoms.”
Phantoms have also begun targeting the family’s sheepdogs, swooping aggressively during nighttime patrols. One harrowing incident saw six phantoms take lambs in a single night, resulting in over 20 emeralds of loss.
Government Intervention?
The Overworld Conservation Council (OCC) has attempted to aid the farm with phantom bait stations—filled with zombie flesh—but Ricky says they don’t work. “They ignore the bait and head straight for the flock,” he lamented.
In 2024, the Phantom Mitigation Fund compensated over 190 farmers, including the Blockshearers, for livestock losses. However, the emerald cap of 5,000 doesn’t begin to cover the financial devastation.
The OCC claims to be balancing the preservation of this “endangered mob” with the needs of Overworld farmers, but critics argue it’s the farmers who are endangered.
A Plea for Action
“We’re doing our part to preserve biodiversity,” said Kristen, referencing the farm’s efforts to protect wild parrots and owls. “But how can we continue if we can’t protect our sheep?”
With their daughter destined to inherit the farm, the Blockshearers hope for urgent intervention. “What do you expect us to do? Abandon everything?” Ricky asked.
The OCC maintains that discussions are ongoing and promises more effective deterrent programs. Meanwhile, Ricky continues his uphill battle, torch in hand, hoping to save his farm before the phantoms take it all.
Villagers are calling for more transparency and action from the OCC, demanding answers before more farms fall victim to the phantom plague.
